The story of “Cinderella” follows the fortunes of young Ella (Lily James) whose merchant father remarries following the death of her mother. Eager to support her loving father, Ella welcomes her new Stepmother (Cate Blanchett) and her daughters Anastasia (Holliday Grainger) and Drisella (Sophie McShera) into the family home. But, when Ella’s father unexpectedly passes away, she finds herself at the mercy of a jealous and cruel new family.

Soon, she is forced to become their servant, disrespected, covered in ashes and spitefully renamed Cinderella. Yet, despite the cruelty inflicted upon her, Ella will not give in to despair nor despise those who mistreat her, and she continues to remain positive, determined to honor her mother’s dying words and to “have courage and be kind.”

When Ella meets a dashing stranger in the woods, unaware that he is really the Prince (Richard Madden) and not merely Kit, an apprentice at the palace, she believes she has finally found a kindred soul. It appears her fortunes may be about to change when the King (Derek Jacobi) summons all maidens in the kingdom to attend a royal ball at the palace, raising Ella’s hopes of once again encountering the charming Kit. Alas, her Stepmother forbids her to attend and callously destroys her dress.

Meanwhile, the calculating Grand Duke (Stellan Skarsgård) devises a plan to thwart the Prince’s hopes of reuniting with Ella and enlists the support of the devious Stepmother. But, as in all good fairy tales, help is at hand. Soon, a kindly beggar woman (Helena Bonham Carter) steps forward and, armed with a pumpkin, a few mice and a magic wand, changes Cinderella’s life forever.

Disney's Live-Action "Cinderella" Enchants Audiences of All Ages!

by: Liz Smith

It should come as no surprise that Disney is dominating the box office with it's latest release of the live action "Cinderella" movie. With initial box office estimates coming in grossing over 70.1 Million, "Cinderella" is proving to be a huge success, even outdoing opening weekends for "Maleficent" and "Frozen" (Box Office Mojo). Of course, it does help that the release of "Frozen Fever" is cleverly packaged at the beginning of the film.

Disney has breathed new life into this classic fairy tale. Lilly James (Downton Abbey) is absolutely stunning as Cinderella, bringing an absolutely splendid and innocent charm to the lead role. The saying, "Have courage, and be kind." was a theme throughout the movie. The character of Lady Tremaine (Cate Blanchet) was absolutely brilliant! She brought new life to the role of the 'evil stepmother', and takes the character to new heights. Her performance stands beside greats, such as Meryl Streep as Miranda in "The Devil Wears Prada," and Glen Close as Cruella in "101 Dalmatians." Helena Bonham Cater has played a wide array of characters throughout the years, and brought her unique style to her role as the Fairy Godmother. And Richard Madden (Game of Thrones) was perfect for the role of Prince Charming. All in all, this was a brilliantly cast movie!

The fashion in "Cinderella" is absolutely unparalleled by any previous Disney movie. With beautiful dresses, and glass slippers made of Swarovski Crystal, it is every young princesses dream. And with Disney's Princesses Consumer product franchises ranking #1 worldwide, it was only natural that they would go all out for this new hit. Many fashion designer giants Such as Jimmy Choo and Stuart Weitzman, have collaborated to bring you high end "Cinderella" inspired designer shoes, and that's just the tip of the iceberg with the adult fashion line.

For those who are fans of the original animated Disney classic (1950) version, this does not disappoint. With recent Disney movies like "Maleficent" charting new territory, this was a breath of fresh air to see Disney return to its roots and what it does best. After all, nobody can out-do Walt Disney when it comes to the perfect Princess Fairytale! Long time Disney fans of all ages will love this new live-action take on a Disney Classic. And for those who love this, you can mark your calendars and datebooks for Disney's live-action "Beauty and the Beast," coming to the Big Screen 3.17.2017!
