The Show

Television viewers look forward to the Kids’ Choice Awards all year long and this year’s event did not disappoint! Where else in TV can you see a mega-watt superstar like Harrison Ford getting slimed? Yes, the KCA’s are one show that you shouldn’t miss.

The show opened with host, Jack Black, being reunited with “School of Rock” co-star Miranda Cosgrove as she walked in on his pre-show ritual. Jack was trying to “become one with the slime,” foreshadowing one of slimiest shows in Kids’ Choice history. Everyone from Orlando Bloom to Brendan Fraser got hit with the green stuff. Mr. Black seems to have gotten his wish when he was covered in goo too! You know when Indiana Jones himself gets slimed that this was going to be something to see.

Always a highlight, the musical guests at the KCA’s set a pretty high bar for future performers. Nickelodeon’s own, The Naked Brothers Band, had everyone on their feet and rockin’ to their hit “I Don’t Wanna to Go to School.” Though teenage girls probably had a hard time taking their eyes of Alex and Nat, there was plenty of other action onstage as their number featured BMX bike racers, skateboarders and in-line skaters doing what they do best. The crowd went crazy when fan favorite, Miley Cyrus, took the stage to perform her smash “Girls Night Out.” The audio level in the place registered through the roof!

Star-studded doesn’t even begin to describe the show as celebrities like Will Smith, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Devon Werkheiser, Steve Carell, Shia LaBeouf, Rihanna , Janet Jackson, Pete Wentz, James Marsden, Heidi Klum, Drake Bell, Hayden Panettiere, Ashlee Simpson, Miranda Cosgrove, America Ferrera, Abigail Breslin, Amy Poehler, Howie Mandel, Josh Peck, Ryan Seacrest, Ryan Sheckler, and more were on the hand to present awards and/or just enjoy the fun!

Votes were cast by over 88 million kids to determine the winners in 18 categories! (See the winners list above!) Find out more about the voting process and the show by visiting www.nick.com. Congratulations to all the winners and to all the kids who expressed their choices by voting! You all rock!

Nickelodeon's 2008 Kids' Choice Awards is the Biggest One Yet

Slime-Filled Show Earns Top Spot on TV with Kids and Tweens for the Week and Highest Ratings Ever among Kids 2-11; Scores 7.4 million Total Viewers

Almost 90 million Votes Cast by Kids across Nick's Digital Platforms, Doubling Last Year's Vote Record and Leading Nick.com to Its Highest Trafficked Day Ever

Nickelodeon's 2008 Kids' Choice Awards (KCAs) set a big, slime-induced ratings record on Saturday, March 29 (8-9:30 p.m. ET/PT), by becoming the biggest KCAs to date for kids 2-11 and total viewers (P2+), outranking last year's record-breaking show. The 2008 KCAs earned the number-one spot on all of television for the week with kids and tweens as well as the top spot on cable with total viewers. Hosted by Jack Black, the 2008 Awards also set a record online by leading Nick.com to its most trafficked day and bringing in an unprecedented 89.3 million votes across various Nick digital platforms.

With kids 2-11, the show earned a 10.9/3.8 million K2-11, a +6% increase over last year's telecast which was hosted by Justin Timberlake and had previously ranked as the highest-rated Kids' Choice Awards in the show's history. The show has steadily increased in ratings and delivery each year since 2003.

This year's telecast also garnered a 13.7/2.9 million kids 6-11 and a 12.5/2.7 million tweens 9-14. A record 7.4 million total viewers (P2+) tuned into the show, a +22% increase over last year and the show's biggest overall audience ever. In addition, the telecast was the most-watched ever among all core demos including kids 2-11 (+11% over 2007), kids 6-11 (+2%), and tweens 9-14 (+4%).

More kids voted this year than ever for this year's KCAs, with 89.3 million votes cast, which is +119% over 2007 and more than double last year's record. The March 29 event boosted Nick.com to its highest trafficked day ever, with 1.7 million unique visitors, 40 minutes spent on the site per visitor for the day, and more than 27.1 million page views. Votes were cast in a total of 18 categories on Nick.com (http://www.nick.com), Nicktropolis (http://www.nicktropolis.com) and through Nick's mobile website (wap.nick.com), from March 3 to March 29.

Nick.com's KCA-themed Game of the Week, "KCA Amped," launched on March 20 and generated nearly 900,000 game plays in just over a week. In addition, TurboNick, Nickelodeon's broadband video player on Nick.com, served as the fully interactive home of KCAs, giving kids an insider's look at the orange carpet arrivals, backstage, the show and after party. The TurboNick telecast, which also aired within Nicktropolis, garnered 289,000 streams, a +81% increase over last year.

Nickelodeon's 2008 Kids' Choice Awards, featured stars of TV, movies, music and sports and returning host Jack Black. The star-studded telecast featured celebrity participants including: Cameron Diaz, winner of this year's "Wanna Be" award; Harrison Ford; Shia LaBeouf; Steve Carell; Hayden Panettiere; Chris Brown; Miranda Cosgrove; Heidi Klum; Drake Bell; Ashlee Simpson; America Ferrara; Amy Poehler and Ryan Seacrest, along with musical performances by Miley Cyrus and Nickelodeon's own The Naked Brothers Band.

Johnny Depp, Jessica Alba, Eddie Murphy, Miley Cyrus, The Jonas Brothers, Drake Bell, Chris Brown, Tony Hawk, Alvin and the Chipmunks, Cameron Diaz (Wannabe Award) – and Many More – Score at Nickelodeon's 2008 Kids' Choice Awards

Kids Cast Record-breaking 88,254,272 Million Votes for Their Favorites in 18 Categories

Stars Go Green with Big Slimy Feats and Longest Slime Time Ever

Host Jack Black and Orlando Bloom Soaked in Spectacular Superstar Sliming

Harrison Ford Gets the Goo, Too!

Heidi Klum, Akon and Usher Usher in Three Interactive Slime Stunts with Host Laila Ali

Kids thanked their stars tonight at Nickelodeon's 2008 Kids' Choice Awards, and lucky luminaries Johnny Depp, Jessica Alba, Eddie Murphy, Miley Cyrus, Drake Bell, The Jonas Brothers, Chris Brown – and more – clinched coveted orange Blimps during the live telecast, Saturday, March 29 (8-9:30 p.m. ET/tape delay PT). Hosted by Jack Black and spotlighting the hottest stars of TV, movies, music and sports, the kudo/mess-fest at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion – "where Hollywood meets the slime" – gave new meaning to "Go Green!" Not only did glorious slime showers drench gleeful kids and celebs throughout the show, for the first time three interactive celebrity slime stunts, hosted by Laila Ali and featuring Akon, Usher and Heidi Klum, wowed the crowd and led to the longest slime time in history – and the climactic superstar sliming of Orlando Bloom and host Black.

More than doubling last year's record-breaking record, 88,254,272 million kids cast votes March 3-29 in 18 categories to honor their favorites. Votes were cast via http://www.nick.com, http://www.nicktropolis.com, http://www.turbonick.com and for the first time via Nick's new mobile website (wap.nick.com).

Tally yielded treasured blimps for Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End) and Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) as Favorite Movie Actor and Favorite Movie Actress. Alvin and the Chipmunks and Ratatouille respectively grabbed Favorite Movie and Favorite Animated Movie. Eddie Murphy clinched a Blimp as Favorite Voice in an Animated Movie (Shrek the Third). Top TV awards went to American Idol as Favorite Reality Show, to Drake & Josh as Favorite TV Show and to Avatar: The Last Airbender as Favorite Animated Show. Drake Bell (Drake & Josh) collected his third consecutive Blimp as Favorite TV Actor, and last year's Favorite TV Actress, Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana), nabbed a pair for Favorite TV Actress and Favorite Female Singer. Tony Hawk and Danica Patrick scored for Favorite Male Athlete and Favorite Female Athlete. In music, Chris Brown seized Favorite Male Singer, and The Jonas Brothers triumphed as a group; Avril Lavigne's Girlfriend won for Favorite Song. The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling notched Favorite Book honors.

Setting the stage for the revelry and mess, cameras captured host Jack Black backstage as he stunned his onetime School of Rock co-star, Miranda Cosgrove (Nickelodeon's iCarly), with his spiritual and physical quest – part maharishi and part The Six million Dollar Man – to "become one with the slime" and the best Kids' Choice host in history. Then, caped and clad in slime green, he bounded onstage and pumped up the volume with I Was Made for Sliming You, musically paving the way for pop sensations Miley Cyrus and Nickelodeon's The Naked Brothers Band. Superstar Cyrus excited the kid crowd with a lavish production number of Girl's Night Out from her concert tour/movie, and The Naked Brothers Band rocked with I Don't Wanna Go to School while skateboarders, BMX bikers and in-line skaters leaped and played with eye-popping moves.

Laila Ali provided colorful commentary for not one but three interactive spectacular slime stunts. Swinging on a crane for Celebrity Slime Darts, Heidi Klum came through with flying colors as she popped scores of slime-filled balloons on a giant wall. Voting at nick.com, kids picked her popping mode: a giant butt pad covered in spikes. For Scuba Sumo Slimo, scuba diver stepped aside for sumo wrestler, after kids selected him at nick.com, and Usher blasted a high-pressure hose at the human slime target: The stunt man slid, flew and rolled through a shuffleboard point set-up to determine "slimage" for the giant tank onstage. And in Slime-o-lition Derby, Akon hopped into the bumper car shaped like a giant Jack Black bobble-head doll and zigzagged through an obstacle course, thwacking slime filled targets and topping the slime-o-meter. Kids picked the vehicle on nick.com that gave more bang for the buck and more slime for the tank.

Filled to the brim, the giant slime tank was poised, goo-d and ready to spill as veteran slime recipient Jack Black and Orlando Bloom levitated upward in their slime seats to make Nick history. "It's the whole reason I became an actor – to take part of the biggest celebrity sliming in Kids' Choice history," said Bloom. Their climactic superstar sliming was the longest in show history, and Bloom joined an elite fraternity of stars who reveled in the slime experience including Vince Vaughn, Robin Williams, Johnny Depp, Mike Myers, Adam Sandler, Tom Cruise, Jim Carrey, James Earl Jones, Rosie O'Donnell, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller.

In a show highlight, The Wannabe Award, an annual honor bestowed on a celebrity role model who kids most "want to be," was presented to Cameron Diaz – former Kids' Choice Awards host (2004)/Burp Award winner (2001) – by Ashton Kutcher. The presentation was green-themed in keeping with Diaz's laudable conservation/environmental efforts, and in accepting, she exclaimed, "This is the biggest honor of my entire life! Kids are the future... and I'm honored to inspire you to change this world." She prompted the crowd to shout, "We are the future and the future is bright!" and urged them to "Go out and make this a better world."

Burping was music to kids' ears this year, as celebrities who visited the orange carpet Burp Zone punctuated the song Y.M.C.A. with burps, and all of the belchers appeared in a resounding montage that showcased their efforts – and took burping to a new level. Past proud best belchers include Cameron Diaz, Jessica Alba and Steve Irwin (shared honor), Justin Timberlake (two-time winner) and Hugh Jackman.

In addition, the star-studded telecast featured celebrity participants including Will Smith, Steve Carell, Shia LaBeouf, Harrison Ford, Chris Brown, Janet Jackson, James Marsden, Heidi Klum, Drake Bell, Hayden Panettiere, Ashlee Simpson, Miranda Cosgrove, America Ferrera, Abigail Breslin, Brendan Fraser, Amy Poehler, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Howie Mandel, Josh Peck, Ryan Seacrest, Devon Werkheiser, Ryan Sheckler, Pete Wentz, Rihanna and many others.

The day's special programming began early on Nickelodeon with iLove the KCAs, interstitials (9-11 a.m. ET/PT). starring the cast of TEENick hit iCarly – Miranda Cosgrove, Jennette McCurdy, Nathan Kress and Jerry Trainor – in-character: Carly, Sam, Freddie and Spencer hosted a special edition of their web show from the Orange Carpet. Nickelodeon's 21st Annual Kids' Choice Awards Taps Jack Black to Host, as Hollywood Primes to Meet the Slime, Saturday, March 29

Jack's Back to Helm Live Star-Studded, Slime-Filled Telecast at UCLA's Pauley Pavilion

Jessica Alba, Drake Bell, Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Johnny Depp, Cameron Diaz, Fergie, Keira Knightley, Eddie Murphy, Shaquille O'Neal, Josh Peck, Justin Timberlake and Many More Nab Nominations

Slime recipient/movie star/funnyman Jack Black (DreamWorks' upcoming animated feature Kung Fu Panda) will host Nickelodeon's 21st Annual Kids' Choice Awards, Saturday, March 29 (8-9:30 p.m. ET/PT) — "where Hollywood meets the slime" — live from UCLA's Pauley Pavilion. Black, who helmed in 2006 and was doused then with the green goo, reclaims the reins at the 2008 event where kids honor their favorites from the worlds of film, music, sports and television in a star-studded live telecast (tape delayed for West Coast).

"We couldn't be happier that Jack is back to host Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice, and we're looking forward to seeing what he'll do for an encore on the show," said Marjorie Cohn, Executive Vice President, Development and Original Programming, Nickelodeon and an Executive Producer of the telecast. "Kids adore Jack, and his energy and unpredictability are a perfect fit for KCA. Last year's 20th milestone show broke records, but with Jack's energy and unpredictability we're expecting more surprises and more slime than ever before."

Jazzed about the return hosting gig, Black said, "I had a ball hosting The Kids Choice Awards, and I'm gearing up big-time to 'take charge' of the chaos and mess again this year. After all, I'm a second-time dad-to-be. I have a lot of secret plans, and I hope to give as good as I get when it comes to good, clean, slimy-green fun."

The ogre's odds to triumph grew tallest this year, as Shrek the Third nabbed four nominations: one for Favorite Animated Movie and three for Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie (Mike Myers as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona and Eddie Murphy as Donkey). Murphy also notched the list for Favorite Movie Actor (Norbit). Treasured noms went to Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End for Favorite Movie and its stars, Johnny Depp for Favorite Movie Actor and Keira Knightley for Favorite Movie Actress. The Bee Movie made the grade with a couple of noms for Favorite Animated Movie and Favorite Voice from an Animated Movie (Jerry Seinfeld as Barry B. Benson). Two-time winner Drew Barrymore (Music and Lyrics) grabbed a nom for Favorite Movie Actress as did Jessica Alba (Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer) and Kirsten Dunst (Spiderman 3).

In television, last year's Favorite TV Show, American Idol, got the nom in a new additional category this year, Favorite Reality Show. Nominee Drake Bell gets a chance to win Favorite TV Actor for the third consecutive year, and 2007's Favorite TV Actress, Miley Cyrus, could repeat her performance and also snag Favorite Female Singer this time around, while her show Hannah Montana faces off against Drake & Josh, The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and first-time nominee iCarly. Five-time Favorite Cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants absorbed another nom and will square off against former Blimp winning animated family The Simpsons, who also turn up in the category of Favorite Animated Movie.

Last year's Favorite Female Singer, Beyonce, made the list again to compete against Cyrus, Alicia Keys and Fergie, whose song Big Girls Don't Cry also is nominated for Favorite Song. Last year's Kids' Choice host and Favorite Male Singer, Justin Timberlake, nabbed a nomination in that category again, and the Jonas Brothers and Boys Like Girls are among the contenders for Favorite Musical Group.

Host Black starred on the big screen as a Friar-turned-wrestler in the smash hit Nacho Libre and as showman Carl Denham, who captures the giant ape, in King Kong. He starred most recently in the critically acclaimed Margot at the Wedding and last year in Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny. After earning a cult following for his comic rock-folk band Tenacious D, the actor first gained big-screen attention and won a Blockbuster Entertainment Award in High Fidelity as John Cusack's sarcastic music store clerk. He went on to prove his box-office draw in School of Rock and to win a Golden Globe Award nomination for his portrayal of a failed rock musician turned substitute teacher in an uptight private school. Black made his mark, too, starring in the title role opposite Gwyneth Paltrow in Shallow Hal and in films including The Holiday, Envy, Orange County, Saving Silverman and Bob Roberts. He was the voice of Lenny in the animated hit feature Shark Tale and will voice Po in the upcoming Kung Fu Panda. Next up, he is literally magnetic in the comedy Please Be Kind, Rewind as his character sets out to remake every film he inadvertently erases in a video store.
