Our Review
Iron Man 3 is Shane Black's Sabbath
by Dave Child
The poster for Iron Man 3 shows a broken and damaged super hero plummeting to the earth. It's an accurate portrayal of where Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark starts in this film. He's shaken and haunted by the battle from the previous Avengers movie. He's grappling with some major post-traumatic stress and existential anxiety attacks. Which makes him the perfect character for director and writer Shane Black.
Black might not be a completely recognizable name to the average film goer but you definitely know his work. He's the man who created the iconic "Lethal Weapon" duo and brought Robert Downey Jr.'s career back from the dead with the cult hit: "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" (I can't help but think that his involvement with Iron Man 3 is a giant THANK YOU from Downey).
Black and screenwriter Drew Pearce transform Tony Stark into a desperate hero who uses his signature smugness and bravado to hide a deep-seated fear of losing his ability to perform his duties. In other words, this movie is "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" with robots! It's the funniest Iron Man yet, there's a delightfully precocious kid sidekick who somehow matches wit and dryness with Downey (an incredible feat), but it's the action scenes that keep the movie going. Our hero isn't someone who knows what he's doing all the time. Tony Stark is often flailing and sometimes failing, which makes every bit of action unpredictable and incredibly surprising.
The same can't be said for the broad strokes of the story, however. The plot twists are familiar but the ride is so fun, who cares if you've ridden it before? Make sure you hold up your hands for that last drop, however, because the biggest disappointment comes at the end. No spoilers, but they may have ruined the entire Iron Man franchise with this one. They treat this movie like the conclusion of a trilogy, rather then another chapter in a running series. I mean there's still going to be an Avengers 2 right? Well, I guess that's a problem for Joss Whedon... not us. You'll leave the theatre entertained and smiling, if not a little confused about the future. Also, as is the case with all these Marvel movies... stay for the end of the credits.

Meet Ty Simpkins
Meet a Young Actor With Nerves of... Iron! Ty Simpkins' Character Helps Save The Day in "Iron Man 3!"
by Steven Brun and Susan J. Yeager
It's not hard to believe that film making doesn't really make eleven year old Ty Simpkins nervous. After all, the young talent has been appearing in feature films since he was three years old. How did he cut his teeth (if he had any at the time)? It was a tiny little movie called "War of the Worlds," directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Tom Cruise. It's no wonder that going toe-to-steel toe- with Robert Downey Jr. in one of the biggest movie franchise ever was just another day to this ambitious young man.
Ty landed every young man's dream role when he found out that he would be playing "Harley" in the third installment of the beyond super popular "Iron Man" movie trilogy. "I was at school when it happened," he recalls casually. He may not have been too surprised after a smooth audition with the film's star, Robert Downey, Jr. "The chemistry read was pretty cool," he admits. "I was kinda staring at him, and he asked, 'are you nervous at all?' I said 'No. I'm just excited to meet you.' [That] was one of the reasons I got the part. The other reason I got the job was cause I kept saying, 'I'm gonna get this! I'm gonna get this! I'm gonna get this!' And the other reason is my acting. Robert Downey made it easy for me because he's so good."
He was thrilled to get to hang with and learn from such an amazing cast and crew, but there was fun to be had on set as well... like snowball battles with a special effect's crew member. "One day, I threw a snow ball at him while he was talking to someone which started this on- going war!" Ty shares. "Until one night, they had to start the snow machine and he blew all the snow at me. "
Every moment during filming was memorable for one reason or another but overall "Hanging out with Robert and [just] being in 'Iron Man 3'" are what Ty will cherish for years to come. He's been in touch with Robert a few times since the movie wrapped. "He invited me to Thanksgiving dinner and to his son Exton's birthday party."
Prior to working on one of this summer's most anticipated blockbusters, the young talent worked fairly steadily, appearing on TV shows like Guiding Light, CSI and Private Practice. He appeared alongside mega watt actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in "Revolutionary Road." Showing no signs of slowing down, he is now working on reprising his role as "Dalton Lambert" in "Insidious 2." He will also be seen in the upcoming "Conversations With Andy," a story about a boy who tries to stop his parents from divorcing and turns to his friend Andy Warhol for advice.
When not working, Ty is a typical 11 year old who is wrapping up fifth grade. "You have a tutor so you don't miss anything," Ty explains about how he juggles school and working. "[You just have to] make sure the teachers give you your assignments."
Though he doesn't have much free time, Ty can usually be found hanging out with friends (or Skyping with them) and doing Tae Kwon Do. He can also be found checking his Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
Head to your local theater to watch Ty in action in "Iron Man 3." See how his character "Harley" helps "Tony Stark" save the world again.
